Room Parents 2007-2008

Room Parent Responsibilities

This year our Room Parent Program will change slightly.  Like last year, each class will have one Lead Room Parent.  The Lead Room Parent will again oversee all class activites and act as the main teacher contact throughout the year.  However, this year instead of the Lead Room Parent soliciting help from the other Room Parents to coordinate class efforts, each Room Parent is asked to volunteer to oversee certain annual tasks.  An example of these types of tasks include securing chaperones for field trips.

Because each class is difference and some require more assistance than others, we have listed the general responsibilities for the year.  We have also highlighted those classes that have added responsibilities.  Please note, it is imperative that all Lead Room Parents meet their teachers as soon as possible in order to determine any additional needs.  Finally, the Lead Room Parent is responsible for working with each respective Room Parent to ensure all commitments are met.

  1. Coordinate Class Field Trips- This includes securing drivers and ensuring they know where and when to meet.  Only upon the teacher's request it might also include the coordinating of students and which driver they will travel with and the making of nametags.  A list of drivers must be provided to the teacher in advance.

  2. Home Projects from the Teacher- This task includes working with the Lead Room Parent and the teacher to determine what help is needed, then to secure volunteers.

  3. Class Parties- Each class is expected to hold three class parties a year...Thanksgiving, Christmas, and End of the Year.  Perhaps you would like to have two individuals head this up and/or one per event.  Kindergarten is an exception.  They have many class parties and may want to secure two volunteers for the beginning of the year and two for the second half.  It is important to remember to work with the Lead Room Parent and teacher in order to determine expectations.

  4. Fall Dance- Each class will be asked to provide certain volunteer sand/or items for the fall dance.  The person who takes on this responsibility is expected to attend all related meeting and solicit volunteers.

  5. Spirit Day-  Each class will be asked to provide a minimum of three adult chaperones to stay at the event the entire day.  Each class will also be responsible for coordinating two games and for transporting their students to and from Lacy Park.

  6. Jubilee Dinner Dance- Each class will be asked to provide certain volunteers and/or items for the Jubilee Dinner Dance.  The person who takes on this responsibility is expected to attend all related meeting and solicit volunteers.

  7. Discovery Day- Each class will be asked to volunteer to oversee certain activities.  The person with work with the Lead Room Parent and the Committee Chair to determine what specific responsibilities are required.

  8. Mayfaire-Each class must over see two booths and/or a booth and a ride.  This includes decorating and staffing the booth/ride.  Please note, if you choose this task you will need to secure the volunteers for this event.

Classes with additional responsibilities:

Kindergarten: This class has a party every holiday and requires classroom helpers.

Second Grade: This class will celebrate First Holy Communion.

Seventh Grade: This class is responsible for coordinating the Eighth Grade Party.
